 Onna lawmaker holds thanksgiving service in Onna

The member representing Onna State Constituency and Majority Leader of the eighth Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. (Elder) Sunday Udofot Johnny led his family, friends, and the political class to a special thanksgiving service to celebrate one year of God's faithfulness and benevolence over his political life.



The thanksgiving service took place Sunday 28th July, 2024 at the United Evangelical Church (Founded as Qua Iboe Church), Awa Iman, Ikot Idem Udo Superintendency Mbioto Mkpat Enin Area Conference, Onna Local Government  Area.


In his homily, the Host Pastor, Rev. Titus John Akpan, who spoke on the topic "The Peril Of An Ungrateful Heart And Reward Of Gratitude", read from Luke 17: 17 - 19, said that God is interested in an attitude of gratitude.


The clergyman, emphasised the need for Christians to have a heart of gratitude to God for everything He has done, "gratitude precedes altitude as such, we should be aware of the  enormous dangers and perils that comes as a result of ingratitude.


Speaking further, the clergyman described ungratefulness as lack  of acknowledgement attitude towards any good done to an individual. He charged the congregation to reflect the implications of ingratitude.


Rev. Akpan,  illustrated the thanksgiving to the biblical action a leper took to thank Jesus Christ after he was healed  of leprosy. 


He said the action taken by Hon. Johnny will provoke more blessings and expeditiously ignite greater manifestations and tasked everyone to always thank God for the several good and new things.


The Immediate Past Governor  of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Udom Gabriel  Emmanuel and wife  who were in the service, thanked everyone for taking out time to grace the thanksgiving service, while poured accolades on Governor Umo Eno for his several epochal and landmark projects in the State and lauded the state assemblymen for the indelible footprints that they have registered in their first legislative year.


He admired the leadership style of the state legislature, said the state legislators are mature, hardworking and resilient.


"Prayer must be offer for leaders continuously because governing a state is like swimming in the Atlantic Ocean," Mr. Udom said.


He urged Onna indigenes to inculcate the good habit of appreciating God for the relative peace enjoyed and for placing their own in good leadership positions, while advised them to respect the zoning arrangement system in order for peace and equal opportunity to prevail.



However, the past governor, encouraged families  to be supportive and try to raise others up, "I really want to help the youths to grow, but they should give assurance that the help when given will be utilised and as well yield good fruits."



Earlier, the speaker of the eighth Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Udeme Otong, thanked God for the life of Hon. Johnny, said the most peaceful Assembly under his auspices is grateful to God for the successes recorded in their first legislative year.


Speaker Otong, described Mr. Udom as the David of Akwa Ibom State, thanked him for carefully selecting  the present caliber of lawmakers. "Hon. Johnny is not the best in Onna, but God deemed him fit to represent the whole Onna  Local Government Area.


Elder Otong, also maintained, "we will always  thank God for His benevolence and wisdom, said the eighth Assembly will continuously rely on God till the next three years.


Expressing gratitude, Hon. (Elder) Sunday Johnny thanked God for making all things possible and for elevating him to the position he is now. He poured encomiums on everyone that came out enmasse to give the event colour.


The celebrator, attributed his success to God, while appreciated the immediate past governor for being a blessing to his family.

 He thanked his beautiful wife, Mrs. Unyime  Sunday for being a support plug and source of encourage in times of trial and turbulent.


The lawmaker, however made a  donation to support the services in the Lord's vineyard.


The event  was  graced by the Wife of the Immediate Past Governor, Akwa Ibom State, Her Excellency, Dr. Martha  Udom  Emmanuel (Mother of the Day); Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Kufreabasi Edidem; Chief Whip and member representing Mbo State Constituency, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Effiong Johnson; member representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Otobong Bob, member representing Etim Ekpo/ Ika State Constituency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Mfon Idung, Hon. (Dcn) Lawrence Udoide (Ini State Constituency).


Others were; member  representing Etinan State Constituency, Hon. Uduak  Ekpo - Ufot, member representing Eket State Constituency, Hon. Nsidibe Nkata, Hon. (Elder) Udobia Friday  (Esit Eket/ Ibeno State Constituency), Hon. Sampson Idiong (Oruk Anam State Constituency), Hon. (Comrade) Moses Essien (Ibiono State Constituency), Hon. Uwemedimo Udo (Uyo State  Constituency), Hon. Uwem Imoh -Ita (Mkpat Enin State Constituency), the Clerk, Mrs. Nsikak - abasi  Orok, members of the national Assembly among others.
