AKISIEC Disowns Fake Returning Officer, Declares APC's Ntiedo Usoro Winner in Essien Udim
By Explicit News
The controversy surrounding the chairmanship election results in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has been resolved.
The Akwa Ibom Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) declared Ntiedo Effiong Usoro of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the Chairman-elect.
Initially, a viral video showed Professor Inyang Ating from the University of Uyo announcing the results, with Ntiedo of APC scoring 686 votes and Engr. Enobong Patrick Friday of PDP garnering 55,612 votes.
However, AKISIEC's Executive Chairman, Elder Aniedi Ikoiwak, disowned Professor Ating as fake and not appointed by the commission.
Ikoiwak explained that he alone has the constitutional power to appoint Returning Officers.
He revealed that Professor Uduak Okon of the Medical Sciences Department was the legitimate Returning Officer for Essien Udim.
The AKISIEC Boss questioned the authenticity of Professor Ating's announcement, noting that it was staged in Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, with hired drivers posing as spectators.
Contrary to Professor Ating's claims, Ikoiwak announced the official results: Engr. Friday of PDP polled 22,799 votes, while Ntiedo of APC scored 51,751 votes, securing the win.
Additionally, AKISIEC suspended the Electoral Officer of the area for absconding with results sheets.
Ikoiwak's clarification has brought clarity to the chairmanship election outcome in Essien Udim, Senator Godswill Akpabio's home local government area.
