Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has urged newly sworn-in local government chairmen and deputies to avoid misinterpreting their autonomy, emphasising synergy among government tiers.

Speaking at the Government House, Uyo, recently during the chairmen's swearing-in ceremony, the governor stressed that no government arm can operate independently.

Eno congratulated the chairmen on their electoral victory, reminding them that autonomy does not equate to separate entities from the state government.

He stated the importance of aligning their actions and policies with the state's governance blueprint, the ARISE Agenda.

The governor warned chairmen against abandoning their domains to reside in cities, adding, "We will not encourage visiting chairmen. Live in your respective local government areas."

Governor Eno addressed the sole opposition chairman, urging him to work with the state government to deliver dividends of democracy, noting, "There is no APC or PDP in governance. "Let  them see you as the Chairman of Essien Udim, not the Chairman of APC."

According to AKISIEC's report, regarding the recent local government elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 30 local governments, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) won only Essien Udim.

However, Hon. Akaninyene Tommy, returning Chairman of Eket Local Government Council, thanked the people for their support and pledged to replicate Governor Umo Eno's track record at the local government level.

Governor Eno's remarks come after the PDP's sweeping victory in the local government elections, highlighting his commitment to collaborative governance and effective service delivery to the people of Akwa Ibom State.
