 A'Ibom Deputy Governor reveals secret of successful marriage

...as Ikono Council Boss congratulates Idongesit Edem on Successful Marriage

The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, has stated that for couples to enjoy their marriage and stay long in the union, they must show mutual respect,  understanding in their dealings with each other.


Senator Eyakenyi gave the hint, on Saturday at the  traditional  marriage event of Miss Idongesit Samuel Wilson and  Mr. Edem Asukwo Edem, which took place at Ikot Akpan Odung in Ika Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. 


The Deputy Governor who was accompanied to the event by the Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, Engr. Oto-Obong Essien, amongst other dignitaries noted that many marriages have collapsed because of the absence of good character between couples.


Commending the couple for choosing to come together in a honourable way by virtue of the traditional marriage, the Deputy Governor therefore advised them to be industrious and ready to cater for themselves, always maintaining strength of character, showing love to each other and having God as the centre of their

marriage. 


According to her, "Idongesit and Edem will certainly make a good home. I have known them for over nine years now and there is no single day that they had issues that  required the intervention of their parents. Their homes will be peaceful and prosperous".


Also speaking, the Council Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, Engr. Essien, while fielding questions from journalists at the end of the event also advised the couple to sustain the love they both share for each other. She emphasized on the need for peace and mutual understanding between the couple for a sustained union.


The Ikono council boss particularly advised the newlyweds to learn to keep their secrets and solve their problems without external interference, adding that this would further solidify their trust in each other and make way for a successful union.


Her words, “I pray that they live long, productive and meaningful life, bear good children, and enjoy divine blessings, to enable them live comfortably to the glory of God almighty.”



Earlier, the Chairman on the occasion, Sir. Victor Etefia,  while felicitating the couple, implored them to take cognizance of the novel titled "No Longer at Ease"  and avoid third-party interference in their marriage. He prayed God’s blessings on them.


Highpoint of the occasion was the solemn exchange of marital vows by the couple, handing over and reception of the couple by both the bride and groom families. 


Present at the event included; the Chairman of Fortune Schools, Distinguished Senator (Dr.) Aloysius Etok; the Member Representing Ikono State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Asuquo Nana; and Chairman House of Assembly Service Commission, Barr Godwill Umoh. 

Others were immediate past State Organising Secretary of PDP, Barr. Moses Akpan; the Secretary of Ikono Local Government Council, Hon. Edem Umoh,  Ikono legislators, traditional and religious leaders as well as politicians, businessmen and technocrats.
