UNFPA Sponsors 3 Days Capacity Building for Women Led Organizations in A'Ibom

The Centre for Study, Resolution and Domestic Violence (CERSRDOV) in collaboration with United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA), has launched a comprehensive three-days training programme aimed at empowering women to combat gender-based violence (GBV) and related issues. 


Held at the Women Development Centre, Ibrahim Babangida Avenue, Uyo, the training themed "Advocacy Methods and Tools for Women-Led Organisations" seeks to equip participants with effective advocacy strategies and enhance understanding of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).



Sponsored by United Nation Population Fund ( UNFPA), the programme aimed at enhancing Women led organisation capacity on advocacy methods and tools towards eradicating social issues and challenges related to GBV,SRHR, stakeholders collaboration, emotional intelligence, advocacy, power mapping and mental/psychosocial support for women the girl child and society.


Mrs Bilques Yusuf delivered a pivotal lecture on "Mental Health and Psycho-Social Competence", emphasising psychosocial support for domestic violence survivors. 



She advised participants to employ professionalism in counselling, creating safe spaces for survivors. 


Addressing stigmatization, Mrs Yusuf highlighted victims' struggles and urged increased support while advising mothers to strike a balance between parenting and friendship, fostering open communication.

"Develop psychosocial skills to mitigate social and mental health disorders," she added.

Furthermore, Dr Hannatu Zom stressed effective communication skills, urging civil society organisations to collaborate in tackling GBV and sexual reproductive health issues.

Speaking with Mrs Helen Ubit of Theolight Global Foundation, one of the participants, she expressed elation for the training, describing it as a welcome development to address GBV issues in rural settlements.


During the interactive session, participants from diverse organisations and civil societies shared concerns and contributed solutions to mitigate prevalent issues in Akwa Ibom State.
