ITU-IBIONO IBOM CONSTITUENCY PROJECTS: Commissioning Kicks Off

Communities in Itu Local Government Area are abuzz as the commissioning of Itu-Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency Projects, facilitated by Hon. (Barr.) Ime Bassey Okon, commenced today, 11th June 2025. 


The facilities officially commissioned were strategically located across the four zones of Itu Local Government Area and included: Joshua Uwah Street (1.5 kilometres), equipped with solar-powered streetlights, at Mbak Itam III (West Itam Zone); a four-classroom block with toilet facilities at Presbyterian Primary School, Efi-North Itam (East Itam Northern Zone); a solar-powered borehole at Afaha Udo Uko (East Itam Southern Zone) in Itu LGA; and a six-classroom block with furnishings at Ayadehe Technical College, Ayadehe (Itu-Oma Zone), in Itu.



Addressing the gathered crowd at the commissioning ceremony, the Itu-Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency Lawmaker, Hon. Okon, stated, "This marks the first phase, and with continued support, I aim to accomplish more, thereby repositioning the trajectory of Itu-Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency." 




He assured the community of a second phase after the rainy season, likely before the year concludes, while commending his constituents for their confidence in him and thanking them for supporting Pastor Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Governor. "This new political dispensation will benefit all Akwa Ibom people, and Itu-Ibiono Ibom will benefit directly," Hon. Okon added.


The federal lawmaker pledged to equip the commissioned classroom blocks with desks and other educational materials to enhance learning, mentioning his plan to extend the same gesture to other communities soon. He also noted that he would provide toilet and water facilities to Ayadehe Technical College soonest.


Furthermore, the Chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Hon. Ubong Nkutt, in his remark, expressed delight at the wonderful projects facilitated by the honourable member representing Itu-Ibiono Ibom federal constituency, saying he would continue to support his representation. 



Nkutt, while commissioning Joshua Uwah Street, appealed for more dividends to Itu LGA.


In the same vein, HRH. Edidem Edet Akpan, Paramount Ruler of Itu, said, "Thank you to the federal lawmaker for taking pains to put smiles on the faces of Itu people," while appealing for more concentration on constructing better roads in the area. 


The royal father extolled the project facilitator for improving the education sector by providing furnished classroom blocks and prayed for wisdom to achieve more.


Interacting with Explicit Magazine after the commissioning, Admin. Mfon Ekpenyong, legislative aide to Hon. Okon, expressed joy at witnessing the commissioning of projects in Itu. 



"Today is a wonderful day in Itu Local Government Area because tomorrow is for Ibiono Ibom LGA," he said, stating excitement about having Hon. Okon as their federal lawmaker.


The event attracted dignitaries, including sons and daughters of Itu and Ibiono Ibom, such as Rt. Hon. Kufreabasi Edidem, Deputy Speaker and Member representing Itu State Constituency at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly; Hon. Aniefiok Udofia, SSA to the Governor on Grassroot Mobilisation; Mr. Raphael Edem, SSA to the Governor on Brand Management and Marketing; and many others.
