A'IBOM POLICE COMMISSIONER RATTLES SABRE AGAINST CRIME

The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azara, fsi, has reiterated his leadership's commitment to ensuring the command remains tough, smart, proactive, and focused to prevent criminals from finding a foothold in the state.
CP Azara made this assurance Thursday, June 19, 2025, during a press conference at the Police Headquarters in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Reviewing the command's achievements for May 2025, the police commissioner highlighted several successful arrests, recoveries, and investigations into critical crime-related matters in the state.
"I am pleased to present to you a chronological account of key achievements recorded from the month of May 2025 to date. A period that witnessed intensified intelligence-led policing, prompt tactical response, and fruitful community collaboration," he said.
Based on reliable information, the command's operatives arrested two suspects, one Ekong Isiah Akpan, aged 22 years, and one Joseph Ekong Edem, aged 19 years, alleged to specialise in robbing Uyo and Itu Local Government Areas. The suspects are alleged members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity (SVC).
Exhibits recovered included a locally made pistol, a battle axe, a hammer, and substances suspected to be hard drugs.
In another operation, the command apprehended three suspects, one Joseph Ekeng Edet (male), one Ekon Isaiah (male), and one Esther Otobong Edem (female), alleged members of the Ku Klux Klan cult group, and successfully recovered exhibits, including a locally fabricated pistol, a battle axe, and several torchlights, charms, and other offensive weapons.
The command also arrested one Nsikan Raphael Etukudo, a male suspect involved in vandalising electrical infrastructures, and recovered various exhibits.
Furthermore, the command apprehended suspected kidnappers, including Joseph Alafia (male), Oyibo Ayibakumo Brown (male), Wisdom Harry (male), Afanye Igonikon (male), Dare Olaniyi (male), and Tita Mercy Masume (female), and recovered a Lexus RX 300 SUV and several mobile phones.
He said, "the command has demonstrated total commitment to policing with integrity, strategy, and resolve. We have dismantled cult cells, crushed burglary syndicates, thwarted kidnappers, repelled pirates, and intercepted vandals and robbers."
Furthermore, the police commissioner, CP Azara, emphasised the command's dedication to reducing crime to a bare minimum and warned that anyone who breaches the law will face due consequences.
Additionally, he disclosed the command's preparations, in conjunction with other sister agencies, to maintain decorum and orderliness during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's forthcoming visit to Akwa Ibom State for an official reception, to welcome Governor Umo Bassey Eno, who recently defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
At the end, the commissioner commended the press for their unwavering collaboration and effective reportage of the command's progress and latest developments.
